Our Thunder Kart go-kart makes a strange sound when turned on?
tlc289
When I crank it up for my kids, it makes a loud sound back by the wheel w/ the chain on it. Could this be a clutch mechanism? Also, after pulling the string to start it, I have to put it on a cinder block to lift the rear tires off the ground because the tire with the chain on it starts to turn after the engine is cranked (but it has to warm up, so that’s why I put it on block). If I didn’t put it on blocks, it would move on its own and one of my kids is very scared of the noise it makes when it’s first started (and refuses to ride it). The noise eventually goes away after the engine is warmed up. Maybe something is too tight in the chain area?? It sure sounds like it. Any help is appreciated; and any websites with pictures of what you’re talking about is appreciated, too. I need pictures to fix something… I won’t know what you’re talking about if you write, “Yeah, just throttle the clutch cable back a few inches” (or something like that). If not pictures, then something descriptive, like, “Okay, you have a nut on the outside, then a lock washer, then a regular washer, then the housing that covers the chain, then the large nut that holds the tire on…” I can’t be too choosy, I know, but I also don’t want to have any nuts left over when I reassemble the thing! Thanks!

Yes it probably is the clutch these go out often change it yourself it is pretty self explanatory.
Sounds like a clutch problem. Check it out. The springs often break and can easily be replaced. May need friction pads in the clutch too. Have a wee look.
Also could be a bearing about to explode. Check the clutch bearing and axle bearings too.
Good luck!
Probably needs a new clutch.
The engine should run without the rear wheel turning.
If not – the clutch would be stuck.
You can try removing it and free up the weights inside.
Remove the clutch from the engine – the clutch is a simple device – easy to figure how it works.
man that thing is messed right up i hope you can fix it i don’t know how i would tell you if i did
